It took until 9.00 last night before Frits felt a bit more at ease and also got on my lap. All was not well, because he didn't want to eat and was still quiet and alert. He spent the night on my bed, still alert and not himself. This morning he came downstairs, still refused to eat anything etc...I felt anxious, stressed out and upset. He sensed that, of course. I had to give him his AB, and since he refused his pill, the vet had given me something to inject into his mouth. What a traumatic experience that was! He didn't want it, didn't sit still and got so anxious and scared. I got anxious and scared as well and cried some more.
No food, no pills, nothing.
I read online there's something called "easypill" which is a substance that tastes delicious for cats and which you can use to camouflage a pill and have the cat it eat. I was hesitant, because he didn't want to eat anything, but decided to try and find it anyway. Went into town, anxious as hell, bought natural cat food, and also found the "easypill". At the supermarket I scored some fish, thinking maybe Frits would like that. Returned home and Frits was upstairs. Gave him salmon, which he didn't touch. Didn't give up and gave him the easypill. He ate it! Gave some more, he ate it as well! Then gave him a shrimp, which he didn't touch right away, but I cut it into smaller bits and he ate some of it!
After a while he came downstairs, and eventually ended up on my lap, a bit more as himself. I gave him some cat sweets and he dug right into it!
Then came the tricky part: give him his medicine! I didn't think the easypill would work, since he's not a big eater. But I gave it a shot. First gave him an empty piece of it, which he ate. Than gave him the one with the hidden pill inside and he ate it, all of it! What a relief! Hopefully this will work for all his pills! It caused no stress for him, and not for me either. So fingers crossed!
I can breathe a little again.
