a DITL day

I've done a DITL day again and thought to post it in my own journal as well for those that don't do LJ anymore, or just not visit the DITL community.

This day consists of trains, traveling, food, and friends. The only warning I have is: this DITL contains a lot of photos.

I start this DITL day all dressed and ready to go. What you've missed is not a lot so far. Please notice my serious face. Taking selfies is a serious business!


I take my bike outside and get ready for the day.


I try the capture the storm that's been happening for 2 days, but fail.


I've exited my garden, take one last photo of the surroundings and off I go to the train station.


After cycling through heavy winds I arrive at the station and park my bike. It doesn't fit.


The bike garage/storage has bike elevators. Which is cool, but the space underneath is too low for my bike. Doesn't matter much. It's locked and secured.


I enter the station. Blurry photo is blurry because yeah.


We are required to travel with a chip card. This machines allows me to set the class in which I want to travel today. I have a card to allows to me to travel with a 40% discount and today I decide to travel quiet and set my class to 1st. How posh!


I also need some cash and take an extremely blurry photo because I wasn't sure I was allowed to take photos of the cash machine.


I'm going to visit my best friend today and since it was a last minute arangement, I haven't gotten anything yet to bring with me. She's 9 months pregnant and I want to get her a card and some magazines. These cards were not the ones I went with btw, they are valentines cards.


The magazines section. I get 4 magazines for her. Also found a card and then realised I forgot to bring a pen, so buy one of those as well.


I haven't eaten any breakfast, so buy some food and also a latte.


Time to go through the gates to enter the platforms. The doors are supposed to be locked so you can only enter the platforms with a chip card, but this entire project has been a flop from the beginning.


Groningen is where I am going. It's only been 2 years since we can travel there by train which takes only 1,5 hours. Before that there was a bus that took over 2,5 hours to get there. Progress! And the train seems to arrive on time today, which is nice since it's often late.


Take a photo of my town, which is...not really that intersting/fun to live in.


This says cappuccino but really, it's a delicious latte.



My train enters the station. It's a full train and I am happy I decided to upgrade to 1st class. I get anxious around a lot of people.



Sit down and put my latte down. It's even busy in first class, but not too busy.


I am locate in the quiet area of the train, which means no phones, no talking etc..Bure bliss for someone like me. TV screen says what times we arrive at what stations. If all goes well I arrive in Groningen at 11.14


I'm hungry and eat the sandwhich I just bought.





Take some blurry pictures of the surroundings we pass.



Take out my book and try to read for a bit, but can't focus much and just stare out of the window most of the time.

We arrive at our first stop of the day and I change seats.



Decide to listen to some music.


Also write the card for my friend.


We are entering Groningen. This building looks like a nice place to live.


We enter the train station. Look how grey and dull the world looks when it's raining during winter.


Train station, where I have to wait for a bit before my friend arrives.


There she is. I'm extremely excited to see here as this picture shows.


Before we go to her house, we have to buy lunch. So off to the supermarket it is.



We go for these buns.


We also bought some croissants, yum!


I took a photo of my friend reading her card and receiving her present, but it was too blurry to post. So on to lunch we go!

We play cards.


I win! Only first game though. Second game I lost, big time!


Some mini cookies were had.


We also play a Buzz game, which was hilarious.


I won! Only just the final round, but I didn't capture my failing moments, of course.


I get to see the baby room before I return home. In just a few days/weeks time there'll be a little girl in that room.


Return to the station again. It's dinner time and I buy some food.


Dinner of champions was had!


Not a lot of people were in this train. Excellent though for me.



Listen to some music again (and also read for bit since it's dark outside and nothing can be seen)



Have a chat sessions with my best friend who I just said goodbye to about a Danish crime show she couldn't remember the name of when I was there.


Only 30 minutes to go before I get home


The bike is still where I put it. Which is good, because I've also often returned to a stolen bike.


Back home a stop at the toilet is one that had to be made after all the traveling.


Frits the cat gets a cat snack. He has no interest at me at the moment :P



Fake christmas tree is still on the floor, mostly for the extra light in my living room (and of course Frits has to sniff the tree)


I crash on the couch with some Netflix. Teaching fulltime and then also traveling on a free Saturday eventually takes its toll on me. I'm currently rewatching BB.


And then it's off to bed and that's where this DITL ends.
