How to describe a once in a lifetime concert? Lets just begin and see where it goes.
I brought a colleague from work, which was fun. Upon arrival met lovely dear Tori friend of 8 years Inge, it was, as always, just wonderful to see her. We chatted a bit and then entered the music hall.
Later I also met up with Iris, which was extremely lovely and great! She's the sweetest girl!
At about 8.20 the conductor of the orchestra entered the stage. Before that someone of the organization told the audience that the government wanted to cut down on money for the Metropole Orchestra which basically meant that after this year they'd no longer exist. He asked us to sign a petition.
Anyway...the conductor entered the stage and asked us to be silent for 20 seconds. We all did which was just such a wonderful experience. Then he too talked about how the government wanted to cut support. And then he asked to be quiet for yet another 20 seconds to think about it. Again...chills!
Then Tori entered the stage. She looked absolutely wonderful! She then began playing Star of Wonder but it was so out of tune, her voice couldn't reach the high notes and I was actually afraid for the rest of the concert. But she slowly got hold of herself and then the show just became more and more and more amazing. Hearing all the strings, trumpets etc...I just can't express it, but it was beyond anything really. Flying Dutchman didn't really meet my expectations because she really cut down on the "but they can seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" part. Shame. Marianne was intense. Baker Baker gave me the chills, Silent All These Years was just perfection.
But then...Yes, Anastasia...after Flying Dutchman I didn't get my hopes up too high. The intro was lovely though. And then she quit. And it became quiet for a bit. Some people applauded. And I was like "What? No orchestra whatsoever in this song?" But then it started. It was beyond any experience. Better than I hoped for. Just so, so, so powerful and strong and just perfection! A-fucking-mazing! Best song of the night!
In between songs Tori chatted a lot. She was also really moved by the thought of the Metropole Orchestra being no longer there. She got really emotional. She even did an improv about it which was just so lovely. She really enjoyed herself a lot. Loved when she said, before Programmable Soda, how she would just fuck it up. And also "Okidoki!"
After Winter she left the stage, but then, of course, returned. And then she said "I'm sorry people who have to leave. But I fucked up the first three songs and since this is for a radio show I'll have to do them all over again. The orchestra was great, I just fucked up"
And then she re-played Star of Wonder, Jackie's Strength and Snow Cherries From France. Star of Wonder was just excellent this time around as were the other songs. She really got hold of her nerves (much earlier in the show actually). She was fierce!
And then...Precious Things as the final song! So amazing and powerful and she was so into it!
And then it was all over with. She was supposed to play Mother too, but they skipped it.
A show I'll never ever forget and was so happy I got to be there. She was amazing.
And now please let there be a recording. A good one. Because this show was brilliant.
I have no more words right now. Just blissful and happy.
