prettygoodyear: (reading - Books!)

These are the books I read in 2010. It's been a long, long time since I read this many books in a year. I know some people read lots more, but this is huge for me because for years I couldn't find the focus and quiet in my head to read.

The Time Travelers Wife - 5/5 I started this book at the end of 2009, but finished it in 2010. It took me some time to get into the book. I think I bought it in 2004, so that says it all, lol. Anyway...once I got into the story, I couldn't stop reading. I loved it!

What To Do When Someone Dies - 1/5 (D.N.F.) I usually like books by Nicci French. But I couldn't get into this book at all and in the end decided to not finish it.

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas - 4/5 I liked this book, interesting to read it through the eyes of a boy. But I also felt it was rushed at times, especially the end, which is why I don't give it a 5 out of 5.

Marcelo And The Real World - 5/5 A story about a boy/ young men who's autistic. I loved this story and the way it was written a lot.

Her Fearful Symmetry - 2/5 Yeah, so, I loved TTTW and so asked this book for my birthday. I finished the book, but was so disappointed. I felt no love for any of the characters much, which made it hard to keep on reading. The ending was such a let down really.

The Blue Notebook - 5/5 A very intense story, sometimes difficult to read really.

Sarah's Key - 3/5 I was looking forward to this book and the beginning was promising. But there are two stories into one. And they are both not really telling anything. A bit rushed at some points even, and I did not care for the story placed in this time at all.

Taal Is Zeg Maar Echt Mijn Ding - 5/5 A Dutch book on the Dutch language and the silly things we often say. I read it in one go. Hilarious!

The Kite Runner - 5/5 It took me a bit of time to get into the story, but once I did...truly wonderful. Well written and just a book I kept on reading till it was finished.

A Thousand Splendid Suns - 5/5 Same as the Kite Runner: I loved it a lot!

What Alice Forgot - 5/5 Bought this book in Ireland. Was intrigued by the text on the back. I think this book is what they call a chick lit? I usually loath those books and really don't really think it's that kind of a book. I loved the story, about Alice who lost about 16 years of her memory and then gets to learn who she eventually became.

Ugly - 5/5 Based on a true story, bought in Ireland when it rained a lot. Kept on reading and it was well written.

Don't Tell Mummy - 5/5 Also based on a true story, see above.

When Daddy Comes Home - 5/5 Also based on a true story, see above.

The Little Prisoner - 5/5 Also based on a true story, see above.

The five people you meet in heaven - 4/5 I noticed this book in a bookshop in Ireland, but didn't buy it. The title spoke to me though and so back home I decided to get it. I'm still not too sure how I feel about this book. It was an interesting concept, for sure. And I loved a lot of it, but it also just didn't meet my expectations I think.

The Solitude of Prime Numbers - 3/5 Again, a title that spoke to me. I loved the intro of the book, but when I finished the story I felt disappointed. Nothing really happened.

Wallander: Faceless Killers - 1/5 (D.N.F.) A friend of mine told me to read the Wallander books. So I did. But I never finished it. Didn't care for the style of writing at all and just couldn't be bothered with the theme of the story either.

Stardust - 2/5 (D.N.F.) Yeah, this is a shocker, but just never read a book after you watched the movie. I love the movie and the book is very different, but I kept on comparing them and I just couldn't get into the book at all. In the end I didn't finish it.

Little Face - 5/5 Yeah, talk about a mind fuck. Bought it because it was cheap. Finished it in pretty much one read. Was not expecting it to end the way it did.

Room - 5/5 Someone online posted about this book and it got me curious. Great book and storytelling! Definitely a book I recommend!
