Interesting...
8 July 2009 23:09I read something about synesthesia today: seeing colors when thinking of words and numbers. Or hearing sounds when thinking of a color etc...
I don't have that. However...
When I think of numbers, I always have an image in my head, of the numbers going up, like a ladder.
The number that I'm thinking of is always highlighted, and I always, visually, go up or down that ladder.
When I think of the alfabet, I see something like this, though more stretched
Again: letters that I think of, are highlighted.
When I think of the year, I always get an image like this (though not completely) in my head
It's a wheel that isn't really round. And when it's, let say, March, I see it from a different angle than when it's July. The wheel itself doesn't move, I do.
Edit: forgot to add how my week looks like. Looks a bit like this:
Sunday | Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday | Saturday
Though with loads of images attached to it. Before Sunday, I see a soft, greyed out Saturday, after Saturday, a soft, greyed out Sunday. Both are bolder than the rest of the days. Wednesday it cut in half (I teach only half a day), Tuesday has loads of freedom images attached to it, with a dark evening (not working the day, but working the night) etc..etc...Hard to explain!
I also have maps in my head of locations I have been to. Those maps are like puzzles I look at from a bird perspective. They are not static maps, but really just pictures tied together. When I get to know a place better and better, the map becomes bigger and bigger, like a puzzle. It's one of the reasons I never get lost. Even years after I've been to a place, I still have a map of that place in my head, so I often instantly know where to go to. It's more difficult when I've only been to a place briefly, then those maps/ pictures start to fade a bit.
Anyway...the reason for writing this all down is, that two nights ago, my dad was celebrating his birthday. One of his neighbours was there as well, and we started to talk. And he was shocked to hear I see all these things in my head. And I was shocked to hear he didn't, my mom didn't and my dad didn't either. How can you NOT have to images in your head I wonder?
If you're reading this entry, please tell me if you have pictures in your head like this. Or if you perhaps associate colours with numbers or words. Tell me what it looks like, cause now I'm curious!
Wish I could find more info about this. Synesthesia doesn't really fit my description, but it's hard to look it up any other way, lol. If I try to do a search for "images in my head" I get loads of pages on Google, but all filled with weird things I wasn't looking for, haha
